Galaxy’s Edge Dining options - disneyland and hollywood studios

7/31/2019

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

Let’s take a trip there - specifically, to Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, otherwise known as Stars Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If you’re heading to Disneyland this summer or really excited for this fall at Walt Disney World, then like me, you’re already planning every detail down to the minute to maximize your Galaxy’s Edge experience.

This new theme park expansion is entirely immersive and I can’t wait to visit Batuu on August 17 for my Passholder Preview. Of course, that means dining like a local, too, so let’s take a complete, comprehensive look at the dining options at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge through the lens of a Weight Watchers Lifetime member!

And fair warning… we’re in another galaxy, here. I’ll be sure to let you guys know what you’re in for in case terms like “tip yip” are confusing to earthlings. Also, the offerings look to be the same whether you’re landing on Batuu from California or Florida, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out and make updates if necessary once Hollywood Studios opens up the gates (but based on Disney’s website, I don’t see any differences).

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

This is a quick service location (and mobile ordering is available!) and their lunch and dinner menu is thus mostly the same.

If you are in need of something friendly to a food allergy, their menu is very clear about what is and isn’t allergy friendly. To be safe, though, I’d always clarify when ordering from the residents of Batuu.

For breakfast, here are your options:
  • Rising Moons Overnight Oats: Oats, Dragon Fruit, Yogurt, Seasonal Fruit
  • Mustafarian Lava Roll: sweet galactic delight (think a cinnamon roll with a cookies and cream twist)
  • Bright Suns Morning: Three-Cheese Egg Bite, Pork Sausage, Purple Potato Hash, Mini Mustafarian Lava Roll
  • Bright Suns Youngling Breakfast (for kids, but it’s quick service, so you can order too!): Scrambled Egg, Purple Potatoes, seasonal fresh Fruit served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small Dasani® Water

Magically Fit’s pick: Personally, I’d go for the Bright Suns Youngling Breakfast! Or, you can pick the overnight oats or the Bright Suns Morning and give the mini roll to someone not counting calories in your party.

Here’s what we got for lunch:
  • Felucian Garden Spread: Plant-based "Kefta", Herb Hummus, Tomato-Cucumber Relish, Pita
  • Smoked Kaadu Ribs: Sticky Pork Ribs, Blueberry Corn Muffin, Cabbage Slaw (also available for dinner in Florida)
  • Fried Endorian Tip-yip: crispy Chicken, Roasted Vegetable Potato Mash, Herb Gravy
  • Roasted Endorian Tip-yip Salad: Marinated Chicken, Mixed Greens, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables, Quinoa, and Pumpkin Seeds, tossed in Green Curry Ranch
  • Yobshrimp Noodle Salad: Chilled Shrimp, Marinated Noodles, Vegetables, Cilantro
  • (Kids Disney Check) Yobshrimp Noodle Youngling Salad: Chilled Shrimp, Noodles, Vegetables, and Sweet Orange Dressing served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small Dasani® Water
  • (Kids Disney Check) A Taste of Takodana: Black Bean Hummus, Edible Soil with Nuts, Chilled Dipping Vegetables, Multigrain Crisps served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small Dasani® Water

Magically Fit’s pick: I’d go for the Roasted Endorian Tip-yip salad or the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad if I wasn’t going low-carb for lunch. I’d likely get the kids version of the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad as to not have an overabundance of noodles.

And for dinner:

  • Braised Shaak Roast: Beef Pot Roast, Cavatelli Pasta, Wilted Kale, Mushrooms (this is also available for lunch in Florida)
  • Ithorian Garden Loaf: Plant-based "Meatloaf", Roasted Vegetable Potato Mash, Seasonal Vegetables, Mushroom Sauce (California only)
  • Smoked Kaadu Ribs: Sticky Pork Ribs, Blueberry Corn Muffin, Cabbage Slaw
  • Roasted Endorian Tip-yip Salad: Marinated Chicken, Mixed Greens, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables, Quinoa, and Pumpkin Seeds, tossed in Green Curry Ranch
  • Fried Endorian Tip-yip: crispy Chicken, Roasted Vegetable Potato Mash, Herb Gravy
  • Yobshrimp Noodle Salad: Chilled Shrimp, Marinated Noodles, Vegetables, Cilantro
  • (Kids Disney Check) Yobshrimp Noodle Youngling Salad: Chilled Shrimp, Noodles, Vegetables, and Sweet Orange Dressing served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small Dasani® Water
  • (Kids Disney Check) A Taste of Takodana: Black Bean Hummus, Edible Soil with Nuts, Chilled Dipping Vegetables, Multigrain Crisps served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small Dasani® Water

Magically Fit’s pick: Same as lunch, though the Ithorian Garden Loaf also sounds great and a good option for going meatless.

Oga's Cantina

Picture

Queue up the music, DJ R-3X! Similarly to the cantina on Tatooine, you never know what sort of scum and villainy may show up… but the menu is readily available for us smugglers and travelers heading to Batuu.

Oga provides many a drink, some with and some without alcohol. However, our focus here today is going to be on the food to this hot ticket item of a dining experience. There’s not much, so this article will be fairly short; Oga’s Cantina is a cantina bar, after all, which means that people come here to enjoy some drinks from a galaxy far, far away.

If you’re like me and you’re just in it for the blue milk, you can try that (and green milk from The Last Jedi) at the Milk Stand.

This is where the menu seems to differ a bit more; at the Florida location, looks like lounge covers the overnight oats and lava roll regardless of the time of day with no Batuu Bits to be seen on the menu. However, it’s broken up this way for Disneyland:

Breakfast:
  • Mustafarian Lava Roll: sweet galactic delight (think cinnamon roll with a cookies and cream twist)
  • Rising Moons Overnight Oats: Oats, Dragon Fruit, Yogurt, and Seasonal Fruit

Magically Fit’s pick: The Overnight Oats! Also, worth noting that the blue milk comes with a vanilla-butter sugar cookie.

Lounge:
  • Batuu Bits: a light crisp Snack Mix from the galaxy (dried snacks with some spiciness; tortilla chips, wasabi peas, and dried fish).

The rest of the menu is a bunch of crazy cool drink concoctions. While it’s impossible to say which of these would be healthier than the others, I can advise that anything with alcohol is likely going to be higher in Weight Watchers points or clock in more calories on your tracker depending on the size and what you get. But otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy the music and the atmosphere - it’s not every day that you get to travel to a galaxy far, far away!

Ronto Roasters

These menus are identical, which keeps things simple to remember whether you're landing on Batuu from California or Florida!
Breakfast
  • Ronto Morning Wrap: Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Pork Sausage, Shredded Cheddar, and Peppercorn Sauce wrapped in Pita Bread
  • Rising Moons Overnight Oats: Oats, Dragon Fruit, Yogurt, and Seasonal Fruit
  • Kryll Pork Rinds in Cinnamon Sugar (Disneyland only)
  • Endorian Chicken Wrap - Marinated Chicken, Cucumber Relish, Yogurt and Feta Pesto Sauce (Walt Disney World only)
  • Galma Snack Sampler - Turkey Jerky, Plantains, Blue Potato Chips, Pork Rinds, Rice Cracker (Walt Disney World only)
Magically Fit's pick: I'd say either wrap (though the chicken has a leaner protein) or the overnight oats are good choices!
Lunch & Dinner
  • Ronto Wrap: Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, tangy Slaw, wrapped in Pita
  • Nuna Turkey Jerky - Spicy or Sweet
  • Endorian Chicken Wrap - Marinated Chicken, Cucumber Relish, Yogurt and Feta Pesto Sauce (Walt Disney World only)
  • Kryll Pork Rinds in Cinnamon Sugar (Disneyland only)
  • Ronto-Less Garden Wrap - Plant-based Sausage, spicy Kimchi Slaw, sweet Pickled Cucumber, Plant-based Gochujang Spread, wrapped in Pita (Disneyland only)
  • Galma Snack Sampler - Turkey Jerky, Plantains, Blue Potato Chips, Pork Rinds, Rice Cracker (Walt Disney World only)
Magically Fit's pick: I'd go for the turkey jerky as a snack, and have lunch at the Docking Bay. Or, I'd go for the Ronto-Less Wrap at Disneyland Resort or Disney World's chicken one!

Happy Prime Day! For those of you who don't know, Amazon Prime Day is a day full of deals exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers. So many of the products I use every day and that have helped me on my weight loss and running journeys are available on Amazon, so in honor of the big day, I wanted to share with you some of my favorites - plus, some items that will help you if you're planning your next Disney vacation!

Not an Amazon Prime member? You can take full advantage of the deals with a 30 day free trial! Not a bad deal, right?
Without further ado, here are some of my favorite products, broken down by categories.

Foods and kitchen tools used on ww

For starters, if you don't mind having an open box or used item, Prime Day is offering some huge discounts on a variety of kitchen tools! This is a great opportunity to try a new product or treat yourself to an upgrade that may otherwise be too expensive.
There are a few kitchen tools that I use that have been instrumental in my weight loss journey, and some of them are going to be on sale for Prime Day!
My Crock Pot is probably my favorite tool in my kitchen. Slow cookers are great for an on-the-go lifestyle so you can just dump some frozen chicken and veggies in there and set it to low before you head out for work or your day-to-day. I like experimenting with different marinades - usually G Hughes ones since they're sugar free and thus WW-friendly - to get different flavors. Plus they're great for making soups and stews! I personally enjoy making ramen in mine, and the whole house then smells fantastic.
If you're not one for slow cookers but want something to cook your food fast, an Instant Pot is a great alternative! Especially when you consider that many of them also act as rice cookers, yogurt makers, and have slow cooking options as well. It really just depends on your lifestyle (and kitchen size) if both or one or the other is better for you.
This Instant Pot (pictured to the left) is a 7-in-1 multitool and while I personally don't have one (not enough counter space), I have many friends on WW who do that swear by them.
Kitchen scales are also a must; and when it's digital, it's easier to accurately track your food than ever. I've found that weighing and measuring my food has made a huge difference in my Weight Watchers journey, especially when it comes to foods where it can make or break how many points it is. For example, with an avocado, it's not always accurate to say it's just a half an avocado since they're all difference sizes.
Not on Weight Watchers? A scale is useful for any diet or healthy lifestyle and is fundamental if you're trying to track macros to get accurate readings.
A food processor is another must have in my opinion. It's something you need to make so many great recipes come to life, and it makes cooking so much easier! My fiance uses one to make his own homemade marinara sauce (which is significantly less SmartPoints than the stuff you buy in a jar!) and I've seen dozens of recipes that call for one rather than just using chopped ingredients. I've found that while the small ones work, it makes life easier if you have a larger one!
Something that I love having in my kitchen (and leave on the counter all the time!) is my air-fryer! I love putting fish in here with some Panko breadcrumbs, or frozen fries to give them some extra crispiness. Air-fryers are great for all sorts of different recipes - my mom made Weight Watchers mozzarella sticks in there once and it was great - and while they aren't the end all be all of kitchen tools, it's definitely a fun product to have to help you curb the fried craving, especially since many of them do not require any oil.
As far as foods go, I'm super excited that one of my favorite brands of protein bars - ONE - is on sale for Prime Day! You can take 30% off flavors while supplies last. Most flavors clock in at 6 SmartPoints on Weight Watchers, but others (like cinnamon roll) are 7 SmartPoints. That may sound a bit high for a protein bar, but the six point options are only one point more than Quest and they taste significantly better. I don't notice any sort of chemical aftertaste with any of the flavors! My favorites are blueberry cobbler, cookie dough, and cookies and cream (the cookies and cream reminds me of the cookies and cream Hershey bars).
Another must have food for Weight Watchers is PB2. This powdered peanut butter is a great option that is low in SmartPoints and calories. Powdered peanut butter doesn't have much to it and is great not only for mixing to substitute peanut butter (especially if you like to enjoy it straight from the jar), but to add into protein shakes and for baking to give things a peanut butter flavor. They also sell a peanut butter and chocolate version, too, that is the same SmartPoints value!
Plus, I'm a huge fan of Lil Buff Protein. These cakes are a lifesaver on Weight Watchers, aren't super high in calories either, and you can enjoy the entire cake plus a teaspoon of frosting by the same brand for only 6 Smart Points. I find that I only need half of a cake because it's so filling!

You also don't have to make cake with these mixes; people make brownies, pancakes, and cookies with it, too!

Running gear

A deal added on the second day of Prime Day is the type of running watch I love: the Garmin Forerunner 235! These are great because they have so many amazing features built right into the watch, including intervals if you're like me and you follow the Galloway method (run/walk/run) or want to try incorporating some HIIT exercises.
The only headphones I will run with anymore are my Aftershokz Trekz. These are bone conducting headphones which means they don't actually go in your ear, but rest over the top of the ear with the sound pieces resting directly in front of your ear. The bone conduction lets the sound travel to you without it traveling to everyone around you (they seriously work!) and the beauty of this is it allows for you to be alert to your surroundings when running. This is so important for any race or for a training run if you're out and about and not on a treadmill.
I've tried every type of blister-prevention running sock that's out there, and I have to say that my favorite by far is Balega brand. I've never gotten a blister with these and they come in a variety of types and colors so you can match your shoes or accommodate for the weather.

I personally like the no show contour fit since I prefer a thinner sock (especially in the Florida heat), but if you want a thicker sock, they have varieties for that too!
If you're in need of a non-slip headband - another thing I've tried tons of brands for - I can highly recommend Sweaty Bands. I've run five half-marathons without these budging at all and worn them for every race and every training session since discovering them. They have a bunch of really fun colors, patterns, and designs for running or for daily wear! They're also great for Disneybounding at a runDisney event.
Plus, they often release new designs for large race events, so if you're running in a big, popular race, keep an eye out!
For after your run, I highly recommend a pair of recovery sandals. For those of you who may be new to running and don't know, they're meant to provide some shock absorption and arch support (aka pamper your feet) after a long run. I tried Oofos brand and while I liked them, I found that the top would get caught under my toes a lot, but I have not had that problem with the Hoka One One ones. Warning: these things are not cute. But they feel amazing, which is what really matters!

Disney Parks must haves

I recently bought one of these Mickey Mouse inspired wallets on a lanyard to bring to the parks since I don't like having to carry around a huge bag. It fits two cards in the back, your keys on a key ring, and has a small zipper component in the middle (great for loose change and cash). There's also an ID pocket in the front. It's super convenient and I've had people mistake it for the wallets that Coach made for Disney a while back. The lanyard makes it easy to carry around the parks, but you can remove it and use a different lanyard, no lanyard, or get a wristlet strap for it if you wanted. They come in red, black, powder blue, or baby pink - the price varies per color.
If you need something bigger to carry your stuff in, I recommend the Loungefly backpacks. They've got Disney licensing so they're a bit more expensive, but the quality on these is much better than a cheap backpack elsewhere. They're great for throwing in your water bottles, some snacks or food, and anything else you may need!

The one pictured is a Little Mermaid print, but Loungefly has different prints and designs available for nearly every character!
I also highly recommend bringing your own water bottle to the park. If you want a cute Disney design, Tervis makes many a Disney pattern and they're super cute for the parks.

There are a bunch of water fountains around the park and now they're starting to install different water bottle refill stations, so this is a great way to save money and help the environment while at Walt Disney World!
Visiting the parks with kids (or are a kid at heart)? I wouldn't wait to get an autograph book for meeting characters! They're a great keepsake for after the trip since you'll get to encounter so many characters. Plus, it can make for a fun activity to try to find as many characters as you can! While you can buy these at the parks, you never know who you'll find and when since sometimes, there are random appearances from random characters (sometimes called Characterpalooza, but there are other instances of this happening as well, like when I met Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable who were getting a lay of the land at Epcot before a special event).
A portable phone charger is a must have for any Disney trip! There are so many things to take photos of and you'll likely be using the My Disney Experience app to book Fast Passes, dining reservations, and utilize the map and see wait times. For this reason, I'd say you really shouldn't go without a portable phone charger that's compact enough to fit in your bag but heavy duty enough to last you the day. I like this one since it has two USB ports.
Also, if you aren't used to the Florida heat (or if you are and you dread it, especially when you're at the parks), I recommend picking up some cooling towels for your trip. They're great for keeping your head and neck cool when the day gets hot and usually only require a little water to cool up.

You can usually buy them at the parks, but they're much more expensive if you do. This four pack is great for the whole family!
Again, if you don't have Amazon Prime, you can still take major advantage of the Prime Day deals by signing up for a free trial. They last 30 days and you can totally cancel after the fact if you're only in it for Amazon's personal version of Black Friday.

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival - Weight Watchers Survival Guide 2019

7/10/2019

I can hardly believe that the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is already nearly upon us! The festival starts August 29 this year and runs through November 23, which will give you plenty of time to indulge in the smells and tastes that the World Showcase has to offer.
Picture
I mention this every year, but in case this is your first Food and Wine Festival, have no fear: none of these menu options are huge enough to derail your efforts on Weight Watchers, My Fitness Pal, etc. So while I would not recommend sampling everything, I do always recommend sampling strategically: this way, you can do so without guilt and really enjoy what you want with no regrets.

There are a few new booths this year, so I’m really excited to see what they all have to offer!
